Weekend Box Office: Moana Scores $81.1 Million Holiday Opening

Disney’s Moana dominated at the box office this weekend by opening to $81.1 million over the five-day Thanksgiving weekend and $55.5 million for the regular weekend. In doing so, the film landed the second largest Thanksgiving debut ever behind Disney’s Frozen ($93.6 million) and just ahead of Toy Story 2 ($80.1 million).

Meanwhile, Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them landed in second by bringing in an additional $45.1 million and Marvel’s Doctor Strange claimed a distant third place by adding $13.4 million.

Allied, starring Brad Pitt and Marion Cotillard, took fourth place by bringing in $13 million and Arrival rounded out the top five with $11.2 million.
